Northumberland Golf Club Shield

It’s the friendliness of this historic club that sets it apart

In the beginning…

The course opened on the 4th June 1898 with JS Caird the professional at the Town Moor providing the initial design input.

Various design changes took place depending on the position of the Clubhouse and then in 1913 after the Clubhouse moved to the west end of the Park, HS Colt was called in to redesign the course layout and much of his work was in progress when the 1914-18 War broke out.

World Renowned

Soon after in 1919 James Braid visited the course and put his own stamp on the design. Colt and Braid are now recognised as world renowned golf course architects. Colt was a founder member of the R&A Rules of Golf Committee whilst Braid has been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
