Welcome to NGC Juniors 2013
|

The Junior section is made up of Junior members of both Northumberland Golf Club(NGC) and Gosforth Park Ladies Golf Club (GPLGC). Golfers are of all abilities between the ages of 11-19.
Our aims are:
- to help everyone to gain a CONGU (Council of National Golf Unions) handicap so that you can play in all club competitions as soon as you are ready to.
- to teach you course and club house etiquette including dress code
- to teach you the rules of golf
- to improve your game
- to help you enjoy the game of golf with other young players
- to encourage you to become a team player for NGC Juniors
- to encourage you to go on to become senior members of NGC or GPLGC

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

Olly Pratt takes over from his brother Louis as Junior Captain for 2013. Olly has been a regular member of the Junior Team for the past two years and had a very successful 2012 season in Men’s competitions winning the Herbert Miller Memorial Cup and the Captain’s Prize.
With many of last year’s squad still available, we look forward to seeing Olly lead the team through what will hopefully be a successful season.

NOTICE BOARD
The Junior Notice board is located in the lobby leading up to the stairs to the sun lounge. Keep an eye on it for forthcoming events. County Competition handbooks and application forms will be found there, along with details of all Open Junior Competitions at other clubs, County Coaching etc.
COMPETITIONS
We hold competitions each half term and during every school holiday. Dates and tee times may change - you will be informed of any changes by email. Please put the dates in your dairy NOW, especially the Club Championship on Thursday 29th August 2013.
2013 will see our first junior representative match with the Juniors from Royal Burgess in Edinburgh having challenged us to a match. We hope this will become an annual fixture alternating home and away and very much look forward to taking a strong team up to Edinburgh on Sunday 25th August – supporters will be welcome.

Every member will get regular emails a few weeks prior to each competition and you are requested to email a response. The draw is usually done 48 hours before the competition and emailed out to all competitors. If you do not receive an email inviting you to play in any of the competitions please email Keith on keithsarahdavid@btopenworld.com
Alongside the 18 hole competitions, we run 8 hole competitions for our younger members and those with high Junior handicaps who may not be ready for 18 hole competitions.
All these competitions are a great way to meet your follow golfers and start networking for your own friendly golf through the season.
TROPHIES
Each year you can compete for the following Club Trophies:

| Fenwick-Smith Trophy | 18 hole medal competition for all CONGU handicaps |
| Doug Smith Putter | Awarded to the young golfer who contributes most to the club during the season and improves their golf the most |
NORTHUMBRIA JUNIOR LEAGUE MATCHES
This season will be our sixth season in the Junior League and the team has made good progress each year. We have a strong squad of players this year and our target is to qualify for the knock out stages of the League competition.
League matches will start in April and most will be played on Sundays, but during school holidays we will try to play some of them on weekdays.
Simon Haynes, with the help of the rest of the Committee, will again be our NJGL league match coordinator.

COACHING
We provide Junior coaching on the practice ground during the school summer holidays. As we now have over 70 Junior members we will be dividing the groups into CONGU handicap coaching and Junior handicap coaching. You must inform Keith Atkinson of the dates you wish to attend by responding to the email that will go out to you nearer the time - we will limit the number of places to the coaching staff available each week - please contact Keith if you are in any doubt. Some coaching will be offererd on the coaching afternoons to total beginners as "a taster", these sessions will be overseen by Junior Committee Members. We do not offer a "creche" facility for very young players - parents of these youngsters will be asked to stay to help during the coaching session. The CONGU group will be coached by a County PGA professional and the Junior handicap group will be coached by other CRB checked top class players who have offered their skills and have been invited to help by the committee.
