A warm welcome to members and visitors.  We are privileged to have a great course and modern clubhouse facilities which combine the best of tradition with a firm eye on the future.

To visitors: I doubt you will find a more enjoyable example of a heath land course in the North of England.  The challenge of playing on mediaeval rigs and furrows adds spice to the game, and the greens are worthy of the best of putters.  Couple this with the fact that you are playing over and beside the Racecourse, and the whole experience is memorable.  This is not one of those eminently forgettable courses when you struggle to distinguish one hole from another.  Nor is it an unrelenting slog - tactical golf is required, typical of the designers, H.S. Colt and James Braid, and worthy of its position as an Open Qualifying course in 2013.

To members: of course you know this already! I would just encourage you to play briskly and with relish (good score or no!) Golf is a game which thrives on camaraderie, and I am eagerly anticipating good sport and great company throughout the year.

Let’s have a great season - preferably with a really decent summer. We deserve it!
